WAKE UP And LIVE’s Actors’ Studio aims to present and area playwrights,’ works that illustrate the diversity of arts and performing artists in Northeast Ohio. Studio director Sue Johnson said plays are chosen because they help exemplify the organization’s mission
The WAKE UP And LIVE’s Actors’ Studio showcases playwrights such as Gary Webster, Playwright-in-Residence, actor and director, who has penned over three hundred scenes, sketches, one- and two-act plays. Some of Webster’s representative plays have been selected which have substantive roles for women and reflect diversity of age, race, and also, because Cleveland needs to know about our own in-house version of Neil Simon.
Webster and our other Playwright-in-Residence, Ruby Fox, began submitting works, several years ago to the Studio, which conducts a playwriting competition once or twice each year, and considers all submission regardless of the writer’s experience.

Curtain Going Up!
Do you have any idea how many aspiring playwrights, actors and other performing
artists are right here in northeastern Ohio? We do, and that's why for the past ten
years, Wake Up and Live’s Actors studio has sponsored "Play Acts" Performances.
"Play Acts" Performances provide an opportunity for up - and -coming writers to
experience the thrill of seeing their work performed before a live audience, and
up- and -coming performers to find out what live theater is like. We hope to continue
this tradition, but we need your help.
Your contribution will help us offset the cost of making “world premiere
entertainment” available right around your corner.
One of the first playwrights to submit to us, Ruby Fox, has gone on to have his work
performed at Cleveland's renown Karamu Theater, as well as off- Broadway in New
York City. You never know whose career your contribution may help launch.
The next person we assist in realizing their artistic dreams might be
someone you know --- or it could be you!
